Motivity, a clinical SaaS platform for applied behavior analysis (ABA) providers, secured $27 million from Five Elms Capital.
WHAT IT DOES
Motivity provides clinical software for behavioral health providers who treat children with autism. It offers an advanced platform for ABA therapy, which is based on learning and behavior. ABA involves various techniques, such as positive reinforcement and understanding antecedent, behavior and consequence.
Motivity's platform is designed to consolidate data collection, analysis and reporting, allowing therapists to concentrate on improving the lives of people with autism and other developmental issues.
The company will use the funds to hasten innovation and increase its staff and the efficiency and effectiveness of its operations.
"This investment isn't just about scaling, it's about pushing the boundaries of what's possible in ABA technology," Rex Jakobovits, founder of Motivity, said in a statement.
"Our focus remains the same: delivering intuitive, intelligent solutions that help providers focus on what matters most – improving the lives of children with autism and their families," he said. "We couldn't have gotten here without SBIR funding from the National Institute of Mental Health and the support of its business development programs, including the NIH Entrepreneur in Residence consultation and the NIH Company Showcase Program."
Jakobovits added, "With Five Elms' partnership, we can accelerate our capacity to innovate and expand our impact."
MARKET SNAPSHOT
Other players in the ABA space include Forta, which in 2024 announced it closed a $55 million Series A funding round led by Insight Partners.
Alumni Ventures and Exor Ventures also participated in the round, as well as the founders of Forward, Flexport, Curative, 23&Me, Prelude Fertility, Warby Parker, Harry's and Allbirds.
Forta combines AI and large language models (LLMs) with a 50-hour training course for parents to provide their child with personalized ABA therapy for autism.
Sprout launched its service in 2020 with $10 million in seed funding from institutional investors General Catalyst, Bling Capital and Felicis Ventures.
Sprout's strategy combines prompt in-home assessments and ABA therapy from a live therapist with a tech platform that delivers ongoing telehealth sessions.
In addition, families have access to a range of other supporting materials, such as treatment-plan progress tracking, educational resources and care coordination tools. The service recruits therapists into its ranks with guarantees to handle "bureaucratic insurance companies and scheduling" on their behalf.
